When the word pyramid is said, you think of the straight triangular four-sided prism, right? Most of you probably don't know the stages of the pyramids. There were four main stages to get the pyramids you know today. First was the mastabas, then came the step pyramids, Next was the bent pyramid, And last but not least was the true pyramid. Mastabas
Mastabas are the earliest form of pyramids. They consisted of a large upper body of stone. They were the main complex, meaning the tomb and the home of the ka. Mastaba is an Arabic word meaning bench because a mastaba looks like one. Mastabas were burial grounds for the citizens of egypt.
Step Pyramid
Step pyramids were the next form of the pyramid. Massive compared to the mastibas, they dominated the desert. The step pyramid was made from six sets of mastibas one on top of another and was the biggest building project to that point in time. The pharaoh controlling the project was Djoser and the architect that made it was Imhotep. The step pyramids looked like stairs.
